Your family hiking experience starts in the small village of Goreljek, located on the Pokljuka Plateau. You’ll begin your journey by hiking through the dense forests of the plateau, passing by the scenic Zajavornik mountain meadow, where you can take a break and taste the local homemade sour milk.
After re-energizing, you’ll continue your trek towards the Lipanca mountain pasture, where you’ll find the Blejska Hut, your overnight accommodation for the night.
6 km (3,8 mi), 420 vertical meters up (1380 feet), 50 meters down (165 feet).
You will begin the day with a moderate ascent to the scenic ridge above the hut that drops steeply to the Krma valley on the other side. Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to admire the breathtaking views of Mt. Triglav across the valley.
After navigating a slightly treacherous descent from Srenjski preval, you’ll cross the picturesque Konjščica mountain meadow and continue along a rolling path towards the Uskovnica Hut.
11 km (6,8 mi), 360 vertical meters up (1180 feet), 840 meters down (2760 feet).
On the final day, you’ll complete your loop around the Pokljuka Plateau as you head back toward Goreljek. The trail will take you through the rolling terrain of the Zajamniki mountain pasture, one of the most picturesque spots in Slovenia before you reach the end of your hiking journey.
10 km (6,2 mi), 300 vertical meters up (985 feet), 200 meters down (660 feet).
If you’re looking to extend your hike, you have the option to start your trip in either Bled or Bohinj and hike to Goreljek for your first overnight stay. Alternatively, you can end your hike with an additional night in Goreljek before returning to Bled or Bohinj the following day.
Nestled in the Julian Alps, the Pokljuka Plateau offers a perfect balance for families looking for a hiking holiday. The plateau offers gentle terrain and stunning views of the surrounding mountains without the technical difficulties that can often discourage families with young children.
As you meander through the woods of Pokljuka, you’ll discover authentic mountain pastures, taste homemade sour milk, and take in the views of Mt. Triglav, Slovenia’s highest peak. Elevated between Bled and Bohinj, the Pokljuka Plateau is ideal for a family hiking adventure. With its relatively flat terrain gradually rising towards the mountain peaks, the plateau is perfect for short hiking stages.
You will spend the nights at two authentic mountain huts, Blejska Hut and Uskovnica Hut. There are several escape routes in case of emergency to take you back to Goreljek, as you’ll never be too far from the main road.
We offer 24/7 support throughout your hike, and we’ll take care of booking the mountain huts and provide you with a detailed handbook, including a GPS track with phone-app navigation. And if you need a guide, we can arrange that for you too.
Book your tour with us as soon as possible to secure your spot in the mountain huts!
We calculate the price for the whole family and not per person. Our final package price already includes all the discounted activities and entrance fees for kids that you would otherwise encounter on your family holidays.
We have no limit on the age of your kids, but we make sure to cater to your needs, given how old your child is.
Our family tours are entirely flexible and don’t target one specific age group. We adapt to any family type, designing the family holidays in a way to be entertaining for you and your kids.
They will pay the adult price and won’t receive entry discounts, but we will still adapt your itinerary to make it fun for the whole family.
As much as you want! We pride ourselves on our holidays being completely customizable so that you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to. We always consult you on what kind of activities you want to do. These holidays are about you, after all!
We include anything you want, from the accommodation to the transfers and entrance fees, and calculate our final price based on that. Things can also always be added at the last minute if you want. One thing that will cost you extra is cancellation insurance, though.
We keep our options open to offer you the best possible solution. We are in constant contact with multiple local accommodation providers to see if they are available. Some hotels can be limited to family rooms, meaning the kids would have to sleep on fold-out beds. Therefore, we also provide an option of private apartments (we can also organize a breakfast delivery in some areas).
Excluding breakfast, we don’t generally include meals in our holiday packages. We make sure to include lunch breaks and some suggestions on where you can get the best taste of the local cuisine. The restaurants usually offer meals for kids.
If you have any allergies or dietary requirements, you can let us know in advance.
Of course! You decide how you want to spend your holidays. We can even arrange activities just for kids so that parents can take a break.
Your daily itinerary will run at a family-friendly pace that will be adapted to your family type and keep traveling time between locations down to a minimum.
Yes! We even offer an optional nanny or an animator for your kids so that you can go for a quiet romantic dinner or a wine tasting, for example.
We will provide a local guide to accompany you on your daily activities to ensure you get the optimal experience in Slovenia. Our guides all regularly work with children and know their way around them. Depending on your itinerary, you will also have private transportation available. We adapt the tour based on your family type, even providing car seats if you need them.
If you prefer to remain the master of your time, our self-guided holidays offer just that. We provide you with a rough plan and some ideas, but in the end, you decide what your family holidays will look like as you go. You will take yourself around Slovenia, but we can arrange a car rental or a campervan if you wish. We also take care of all accommodations and remain available for support during your visit.
You can also receive the best of both options and enjoy the freedom of self-guided holidays while only getting a guide on certain days to show you around. During your free time, we can still organize activities for you and give you some cues on how to spend it. Otherwise, the time will be entirely yours and your family’s.
For families who wish to meet other families with kids and who don’t want to stress about trip planning and would maybe like to enjoy some time on their own as well. You will be travelling with our tour leader in a small group in comfortable transportation with accommodation, entrance fees and a tour leader to look after you. For guaranteed tour departures we have a minimum of 2 families.
